What is Tai Chi , Chi Gong

Qigong (pronounced Chi Gong) Online classes available.

An ancient Healing art originating in China and practiced for 5000 years by billions of people. Chi = Energy and Gong = to work with. Chi-Gong also known as " Moving Meditation ". Focusing on these 4 parts

1-Movement.

2-Deep Breathing.

3-Visualization of your prioritized goal

4-Affirmation a verbal command for your current goal i.e pain relief, anxiety reduction, health.

Qigong plays an integral part of Oriental Medicine, along with Acupuncture, Nutrition and Chinese Herbs. A Chinese Dr is paid by the patient to "PREVENT Disease"!! The patient follows directions and if he/she becomes ill the Dr's payment is REDUCED!! So the Dr's are actually motivated to keep the patients healthy. Completely Opposite of Western Medicine. Today's healthcare system in the U.S.A thrives on the sickness of the nation and they are financially rewarded for how sick society is!

Qigong has 2 parts 1st is called Medical Qigong which is strictly used for medicinal purposes and utilize single slower movements. 2nd the more popular Martial Art known as Tai Chi which involves more Martial Arts Self Defense type moves which are combined into a chain of movements and used to develop not only the inner CHI or energy but to strengthen the muscles, joints and ligaments for self defense.

What does Qigong do exactly and why is it such a big deal??

Scientific studies have shown the correlation between the "Alpha-Theta-Gamma Brainwave State " and Qigong/Tai-Chi exercises. The C.I.A conducted experiments in 1983 with individuals practicing the qigong movements while measuring their brainwave patterns. These brainwave patterns occur when the the brain slows down into a very relaxed, focused, creative state of mind often achieved during regular relaxation or meditative practices.

Stress is the opposite of relaxation. Stress can kill you! Stress and Anxiety is the worst state of mind to be in. When the brain waves are measured during a stressful state , the brain produces Beta waves, a very fast and erratic pattern. Brainwaves at beta are vibrating at 14 or more cycles per second, and have a very erratic pattern on an E.E.G machine. Alpha vibrates at 7-14 cycles per second, Theta 4-7 and Delta which is deep sleep 1-4.

One study conducted by Brigham Women's Hospital found that an Elderly group who practiced regular Qigong  reduced falls by 49%, thus improving their balance, here is the video link discussing this study.

Heart rate, blood pressure, blood sugar all decrease during Qigong exercises.

The Chinese medical system has been practicing Qigong for so long it has stood the test of time. Billions of people have continued to benefit from it's daily use across the globe. Eastern medicine has proven itself decade after decade. Its simple, easy to do, takes very little time and grows stronger the more you do it. Like any exercise the bigger benefit comes with increased practice.

Qigong increased Bone density, improved balance by reducing the sway of a persons walk and increasing the sensitivity of the feet among the Elderly also mentioned in the above video.

Pain in Qigong is seen as stagnate energy. The Qigong movements simply create a "Flow state of energy". Like water becomes stagnate if sitting still it remains fresh and vibrant when its flowing like a river.

The Chinese system of Acupuncture has 365 points all along the body and 12 Meridians or lines of energy corresponding to each major organ system, starting in the feet, zig zagging through the body and ending in the hands. These points are stimulated with small needles in Acupuncture, sending more energy to a particular organ, clearing out the stagnate energy thus revitalizing the organ system. Qigong simply activates these Meridians through specific movements and deep breathing. Acupressure is the stimulation of these points through rubbing, massaging or tapping, many are utilized along with the Qigong movements for an enhanced experience.

Some have seen Qigong and say "Oh it looks like slow motion Martial Arts" . Thats exactly correct! The Chinese gather in parks early each morning for their daily dose of Qigong Energy for the morning then in the evening another set of movements quiets down the mind and prepares them for deep sleep.
